State of the Race: Best Visual Effects

Another treat has come in from the Academy. The number of films in the running to be nominated for Best Visual Effects has been narrowed down to a stable of only 20 movies.

These are normally the movies that play well to summer audiences, so chances are high that you have seen a handful of these. Here’s the list:

Alien: Covenant
Beauty and the Beast
Blade Runner 2049

Dunkirk
Ghost in the Shell
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
Justice League
Kong: Skull Island
Life
Logan
Okja
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
The Shape of Water
Spider-Man Homecoming
Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Thor: Ragnarok
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets
War for the Planet of the Apes
Wonder Woman

Of these, I’ve seen 13 and can’t imagine the race will be anything other than Blade Runner vs Dunkirk.

What do you think? Do you see a gap in this list? Are you as excited as I am that Okja is on here?
